Just up the road from the Taylor Park Trading Post is the little town of Tincup, Colorado. Originally incorporated under the name Virginia City, the residents reincorporated the town as Tincup in 1882 after confusion with Virginia City, Nevada, and Virginia City, Montana, popping up during the mining boom. Placer gold was first found in 1859, and in 1879 the first big strike occurred leading to the formation of the town as it’s known today.

A small unincorporated community in Gunnison County in Colorado which is now a summer place for ATV & 4×4 riding. It is very busy in the summer. Just remember there are only 3 businesses in the town of Tincup. Frenchy’s Cafe, The Tincup Store, and K10 Adventures that provides ATV rentals.

The town’s name comes from the miners who carried their gold in tin cups. Tincup is located on the historic places register and is mostly private land and summer homes, but it’s still an outdoor destination with many recreation opportunities.

Historic buildings: Many historic buildings are still standing and well-maintained.

Cemetery: Contains Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish sections.

Recreation areas: Includes Taylor Park, Timberline Trail, Mirror Lake, Hillerton Road, and Union Park just to name a few.

Trails: Includes Cottonwood Pass for backcountry touring by regular autos, Summersville Trail, South Lottis Creek, Tincup Pass to Saint Elmo’s, Alpine trail to the old train turn style and Cumberland Pass which require ATV’s or 4×4 autos with high ground clearance.

The town of Tincup is very very busy with off-road vehicles during the summer. Again this is a old mining town with just a couple of businesses that are only open in the summer months. June through part of September.

  • Trace and his team are amazing to rent from. We’ve been coming to Colorado for many, many years and always rent ATV’s. We discovered K10 Adventures a few years ago and will never rent anywhere else!! He is friendly, easy to communicate with, flexible on everything, and his prices are lower than anyone around Taylor Park. Thank you Trace for a great day!!!
  • It was a kick to ride around the Tin Cup area & see awesome views & wildlife. Trace was great to work with & very knowledgeable of the area.
  • Great trip. Awesome ride. Equipment was mechanically sound. Trace was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable on what trails were open as this year has had a lot of snow and many trails are still closed. I highly recommend using K10 Adventures. You won’t be disappointed!
